…Baseball great Dizzy Dean was famous for bragging about his prowess at the game. Maybe it’s time we acknowledge that some of our finest work is worth “crowing” about. We were fortunate to witness our daughter’s graduation from her community school last month. Each of the graduating seniors was paired with a houseparent or teacher who stood for them and spoke about how each young person was unique – and how each contributed to the overall health and well-being of the community as a whole. It was an amazing ritual to have someone who has been a valued mentor speak to the qualities they most admired in each student: having a great sense of humor and timing; caring about others; showing determination; demonstrating the courage to grow up. The mentors picked out the extraordinary in each graduating senior. Who can speak for each of us in our lives in this way?
